Step 1: Trace the paper cut-out
Begin by carefully placing your cut-out on the pine board and tracing around it with a pencil or marker. You might want to use tape to hold it in place. Make sure the lines are clean and accurate to ensure precision during cutting.
Step 2: Cut the shape
Using a jigsaw, carefully follow the traced outline to cut out the shape. Take your time, especially around curves or intricate parts, to achieve a smooth and accurate cut.
Step 3: Smooth the edges with a sander
Once the shape is cut, use a cordless sander to smooth the edges. Focus on any rough areas from the cutting process, and make sure all edges are uniform and free of rough marks, tear-outs and splinters.
Step 4: Hand sanding
After using the power sander, take fine-grit sandpaper and go over the edges and surfaces by hand. Pay attention to the smaller, more detailed areas that the cordless sander may have missed, ensuring a smooth, polished finish.
Step 5: Assemble the pieces
Once everything is sanded and prepped, begin assembling the pieces according to your design. Make sure each part fits securely in place. Double-check that all components are aligned before finalising the assembly.
