How to choose the right 18V ONE+ battery
Since 1996, RYOBI's ONE+ batteries have set the benchmark for lithium-ion technology for the DIY and home gardening sectors.
RYOBI 18V batteries are available in ONE+ and ONE+ HP™. ONE+ batteries are great all-rounders, ideal for DIY, Gardening, Crafting and more. And when you need extra power for more complex tasks, ONE+ HP batteries deliver a higher level of performance. Both types of batteries are compatible with more than 200 ONE+ products*.
The differences between 18V ONE+ batteries
18V ONE+
If you’re into DIY projects, home maintenance and repairs, or you’re an avid gardener, off-roader adventurer, hobbyist or just love cordless cleaning equipment, ONE+ batteries have got your covered. They’re the perfect power source for RYOBI’s range of ONE+ products.
18V ONE+ HP™
For more complex tasks that require even more power and a longer runtime, 18V ONE+ HP™ batteries are better suited. These batteries have an additional 2 terminals to ‘talk to’ HP Brushless tools and provide increased power transfer for tougher tasks that can take longer to complete.
Making the right choice
What does the ‘Ah’ mean on a battery?
All ONE+ batteries have an Ah (Amp-hours) rating printed on them. Think of this rating like the fuel tank in a car – the bigger the tank, the longer the runtime. RYOBI 18V ONE+ batteries range from 2Ah right up to 12Ah.
Because high Ah batteries provide a longer runtime, they are slightly larger and heavier than smaller Ah batteries. Higher Ah batteries are great companions for power-hungry tools and products.

What run time can I expect from my battery?
What's inside that matters (the technical stuff)
18V ONE+
- All ONE+ batteries, including HP™, feature RYOBI’s IntelliCell™ technology, which means the battery can manage its own power and deliver optimum performance.
- When a ONE+ battery is being charged, the battery can identify which cells are depleted and can re-balance and charge these cells equally. The batteries will then be able to deliver improved runtime, more consistent power and greater durability.
- 18V ONE+ batteries are great for DIY projects, general maintenance and repairs around the home, gardening, crafting and cleaning.
18V ONE+ HP™
- 18V ONE+ HP™ batteries are engineered to get the most from your ONE+ tools. These batteries are ideal for more complex DIY and larger gardening tasks where more power and longer runtimes are required. HP batteries have 2 additional terminals for advanced tool communication. This combination releases maximum power from the battery to the tool to complete the most demanding tasks.
- The 8Ah and 12Ah HP batteries have larger 21700 cells that are designed with lower internal resistance. This means they can deliver more power with less energy lost as heat.
- COOL CORE PRO™** – A heat management system that utilises heavy-duty, laser-welded cell straps and upgraded heatsinks to reduce battery operating temperatures, which helps to extend battery life.
